Aruba, Jamaica, ooo I wanna take you
Bermuda, Bahama, come on pretty mama
Key Largo, Montego, baby why don’t we go Jamaica
Off the Florida Keys
There’s a place called Kokomo
That’s where you wanna go to get away from it
The song was ringing in my ears, and before I knew it I was grinning 🙂 The song has been on my mind the last 2 or 3 months. Ever since the first kick-off meeting actually. But I digress.
Back in 2010, while visiting friends in Florida, I had the wonderful opportunity to fly down to the keys ( see Island Hopping in the Keys). After that fun-filled adventure, Donn had talked about his Bahamas flight and the fact that Bahamas was only 60 miles off the coast of Florida. Sounded absolutely exciting. Considering I have not flown outside the country yet, I was enthusiastic to plan a flight for my next visit. That was then.
Last year, a group of pilots in the Mid Atlantic had made the trip out to Bahamas. So when my flight school started the planning for the second annual Bahamas trip, I was intrigued. The kick-off meeting was right after Thanksgiving and 12 happy pilots in 10 aircraft were willing, committed and ready for some Bahama Mamas, kaleidoscope of oceanic hues from turquioise to deep blue, white sand beaches, sunshine and so much more. Who wouldn’t want to get away from the arctic freeze prevailing the area for paradise in the tropics even if for a week?
Those that had flown before, had the minute details down: what paper work was needed, what we had to do, where we would stop and the rest. Over three months we met, planned and prepared for the most exhilarating adventure.
Stay tuned for all the details…
