I still have my E6B, and it’s still handy for distance/speed/times answers and other things. In an odd sort of way, it’s always fun to use. And it invariably brings back interesting/amusing/embarrassing memories. One was the occasion at night when, after working the GEE navigation system as a young second officer, I confidently told the very elderly Captain that the GEE showed we would be overhead Brussels in ten minutes. He nodded, sagely, and then pointed downwards to my side of the cockpit. I looked out and, through the scattered low cloud below us, saw a very large city, bathed in thousands of street lights. “I do believe that’s Brussels, he said, with a smile, adding “Don’t always trust those electronic gadgets.”

    I’ve always remembered his words.
