When I heard that the San Fernando Valley 99s were planning a flyin to Edwards Air Force Base, I jumped at the marvelous opportunity to land on the base at one of the longest runways. Anne and I signed up promptly and waited impatiently for the day to arrive. With paper work done and explicit instructions on what to do and not do on the day at hand we were ready to fly!

Wow! That is an incredible experience, and one you will remember forever. Thanks for sharing the experience.
About 20 years ago, I did a fly in at Wright-Patterson. I thought that was amazing. I was also flying a 172. The controllers were using the taxiways for landing. Takeoff was on the main runway. It was so wide I couldn’t find the centerline.

I didn’t realize you were a woman! Just joined the 99’s yesterday & hoping to meet other women pilots. My flying club is mostly men, we don’t do fly outs which is a shame.

I like your post about Edwards Aid Force Base. I am reading a book about Pancho Barnes. What a rip roaring woman. She had a place called The Happy Bottom Riding Club where the air force men came to relax, have a drink and socialize with the pretty ladies. The club was near Murdoc Air Force Base which became Edwards Air Force Base. Now the men do a flyover her long gone property. Very interesting story.
